Hoops skipper Scott Brown called Jamie Walker a cheat last night after the Hearts player dived to win a penalty at Tynecastle.

Referee John Beaton apologised after the game for his mistake with television replays showing that Walker conned the whistler to earn the spot-kick from which Hearts restored parity yesterday.

"When you see it back there is tonnes of contact the way he dives. He is really good at that, he should be at Rio," said Brown sarcastically.

The Celtic captain had crossed paths with Walker in the Tynecastle media room and had not minced his words, and his sense of injustice was still burning when the tapes started.

"Dive, cheat – what else can you say?," said Brown. "The referee has come out at half-time and said he got it completely wrong. He has made the decision but he hasn’t seen it and the linesman hasn’t put his flag up either. “The wee guy dives and you have to expect that.

"There was loads of intent to go down. KT has pulled out of the tackle, his arms are up, he has ran away, and the referee hasn't seen it. Conor Sammon has claimed for the penalty, obviously thinking it is a penalty, but the wee guy has conned the ref. Kieran didn't even know it was a penalty at the time. He has turned around and got a shock when the referee has pointed for it. To be fair it is a great three points at the end of the day. It is a hard start, a great place to come, it is a great atmosphere for 90 minutes and I thought our fans were fantastic. "

Meanwhile, Brown believed that Scott Sinclair will be a quality addition to the Hoops squad after arriving at the club on Saturday.Glasgow Times: Hearts' Jamie Walker and Kieran Tierney come together in the box for Hearts' controversial penalty. Picture: SNS

The former Aston Villa midfielder has been pursued by Celtic for the last month but he underlined what he will potentially bring with the goal that gave Celtic all three points.

“That is him straight off the ground and running," said Brown. "He is a good lad. He has been in the last couple of days, has been good about the dressing room and he has hit the ground running.

“He showed his qualities with his pace for the goal. He cleared it and was then in the six yard box and he is the sort of player you want.

"He has done it at the highest level and played for some great teams down in England.

"He has played fantastically (in the past) and hopefully he can do that for us. I don't think Scott needs a boost - he is a top quality player. But to get off the mark on his debut with his first game and his first goal is great for anybody. He came in yesterday. It wasn't all done and dusted medical wise and stuff like that. He came in and saw the lads and was about in the hotel yesterday."
