CLYDE boss Barry Ferguson last night hailed league debut goalscorer Dylan Easton and tipped him to set the fourth tier alight this season.

The 22-year-old celebrated the birth of his son on Thursday by scoring Clyde’s first goal in the 2-1 home win over Montrose to get his team’s Ladbrokes League Two campaign off to a winning start.

Easton, signed from Elgin City in the close-season, picked the ball up in midfield, created space for himself and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net from 25 yards out.

Broadwood gaffer Ferguson said: “He missed the last training session because of the baby but when we get him up to speed he will be great. His ability is frightening.

“We’re lucky to have a player like him at the club.”

Ferguson also handed five other players their league debuts and was delighted to get the win.

He had to watch his team’s first half lead being cancelled out ten minutes after the restart when Chris Templeman got away from Michael Oliver in the box and squeezed a header past Gibson and into the corner of the net.

With 75 minutes on the clock, a fine team move produced a second Clyde goal. Ewan McNeil and Easton contributed in getting the ball to the edge of the box, Peter MacDonald's neat touch found substitute Matt Flynn in the box and he coolly found the bottom corner of the net.

“We have changed the formation a bit and the players have bought into that so I’m delighted. But we still need to stop being sloppy at the back. One or two have a habit of switching off, but we will work on that.

"Delighted to get the win though and get off to a good start.”

In League One, newly-promoted Queen’s Park suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Airdrieonians.

Queen’s Manager Gus Macpherson said: “We didn’t deserve anything from the game.

“It shows we have a lot of work to do in the weeks ahead but I have confidence in the players to work hard.”

Albion Rovers boss Darren Young was delighted with his team’s resolve after they twice fought back from a goal down to emerge with a 2-2 draw away to Last season's League Two winners East Fife.

The Fifers were through Kevin Smith and Ross Dunlop's own goal, Calum Ferguson and Ryan Wallace levelled the game for the visitors.

Young said: “This will be a difficult place for teams to come this season so I am not unhappy at coming away with a point.”
