MARK WARBURTON admits he feared the worst when striker Martyn Waghorn hobbled off against Hamilton on Saturday.

The striker pulled up sharply with a hamstring injury shortly after securing a point for the Gers as he opened his Premiership account with his fifth goal of the campaign.

Rangers will discover how long Waghorn will be out of action for in the coming hours and Warburton hopes the damage isn’t as serious as it could have been.

He said: “He will have a scan [on Tuesday]. He has become a lot more comfortable in the last couple of days.

“He got a knee in the back just before the injury so I hope it’s more spasm related. He has presented better than we hoped. He will have a scan [today] and we will see how he is then.

“You obviously fear the worst. You look at the way he went down. You think fatigue in the game.

“Again, that goes back to the pre-season programme. How many times were the players really challenged? After 80 minutes he goes down. That is fatigue related.

“You obviously fear the worst. If you get a really bad hamstring you could be out for several weeks. Hopefully, touch wood, that is not the case.”
