DANNY WILSON is determined to rise to the challenge of increased competition for his Rangers jersey this season.

The defender partnered Rob Kiernan for most of the Championship campaign as Mark Warburton’s side won the second tier title and lifted the Petrofac Training Cup.

The arrival of Clint Hill has given the Ibrox boss another option at the heart of his back four but he remains in the market for further reinforcements this summer.

A move for former England star Joleon Lescott fell through on Friday and Warburton could now turn his attentions to Philippe Senderos to bring a fourth centre-back on board.

And Wilson is happy to fight for his place in the team as he looks to help Rangers in their bid for the Premiership title this term.

He said: “I’m quite comfortable with it if I’m being honest.

“Every day I woke up this week there has been a new one linked with us but it’s just one of those things when you’re at a big club.

“Obviously they are trying to get people into improve the squad and the team.

“So it’s just something I have to deal with and hopefully it’ll make myself better as a consequence of it and if they do come in I’ll be working extra hard to get myself in the team.

“If they do come in I’ll welcome them but I won’t just welcome them into my position, I’ll work even harder to stay in the team.

“I did [fear for my place last season], yeah, because there were three centre halves and Dom Ball came in and did well.

“There was a period of time when I got injured and in my first few weeks back I couldn’t get in the team and I was on the bench.

“I was aware that there was a possibility I couldn’t play so I was on my toes. This year we are hoping to have more players, which would make it a guarantee that you know there is someone breathing down your neck.

“I wouldn’t say I got complacent last year but this year you definitely can’t afford to be.”
