RANGERS clinched their second win of the Premiership campaign with a 2-1 victory over Motherwell at Ibrox this afternoon.

But Mark Warburton’s side left it late as they came from behind to move on to seven points from their three top flight outings this term.

The Gers were behind to a Scott McDonald strike after just 18 minutes but second half goals from Harry Forrester and Kenny Miller clinched a dramatic victory.

Warburton stuck by the side that were victorious against Dundee last weekend as he backed the same line-up to do the job at Ibrox.

He saw the Gers make a bright start as they kept Motherwell on the back foot and showed purpose from the off but they couldn’t turn their dominance into a goal.

The lead was almost handed to Rangers after eleven minutes when Lionel Ainsworth saw his slack pass intercepted by Miller but the striker’s effort was just over the bar on the angle.

Forrester tried his luck twice in quick succession from the edge of the box but both efforts were narrowly wide of target as Motherwell breathed a sigh of relief.

The Steelmen were soon celebrating, though, as Mark McGhee’s side took the lead after 18 minutes.

Ainsworth had seen a shot whistle by Wes Foderingham’s post from 20 yards and the next time Motherwell attacked they found the net, McDonald converting a Marvin Johnson cross from the left.

It almost got worse for Rangers just minutes later but Craig Clay’s drive was just wide of target as the home crowd voiced their frustrations at another slack defensive showing.

Warburton’s side would see plenty of the ball in the remainder of the half but clear chances were few and far between as the pressure mounted on the Gers.

A chorus of boos at the whistle was followed by a roar of encouragement at the restart and Rangers were once again on the front foot early in the second half.

James Tavernier saw a drive whistle over the bar after a spell of pressure from the hosts but there was a scare at the other end as Foderingham had to pull off a smart save to stop McDonald doubling Motherwell’s advantage.

It was no surprise to see Warburton turn to his bench just ten minutes into the second period as Joe Dodoo and Niko Kranjcar took over from Barrie McKay and Andy Halliday.

Warburton would make his third change shortly afterwards and it came as Ibrox celebrated the goal Rangers had been waiting for.

Kranjcar’s neat chip over the Well defence was met by Miller and when he was blocked by Craig Samson, the ball fell to Forrester to slot home from inside the area.

It was his last act as he was replaced by Michael O’Halloran and Rangers now had the win in their sights with just under half an hour remaining.

The Gers saw wave after wave of attacks come to nothing as the clock ticked down and Motherwell looked to soak up the pressure at Ibrox.

A well struck Johnson effort was saved by Foderingham on one of the visitors' rare forays up the park, before Dodoo hit the side netting as he burst into the area and Kranjcar came close with a curling strike from the edge of the box.

With just seconds remaining, Miller got the winner and Ibrox erupted. Kranjcar’s cross from the right found O’Halloran and when his shot was blocked the ball fell to Miller at the back post.

The striker made no mistake as he fired a shot across the goal and into the corner of the net to send the Light Blue legions wild.

O’Halloran had a chance to make it 3-1 seconds later but his miss didn’t prove costly as Motherwell looked to rally, a Johnson shot the closest McGhee’s side came.

It was job done for Rangers, but only just.
