DOMINIC BALL spent last season in a title battle with Alan Stubbs as Rangers and Hibernian became firm rivals in the Championship.

Now the defender is determined to help his new boss strive for success south of the border after making the move to Rotherham in the summer.

Ball was a key part of the Light Blues side that clinched the second tier crown last term as Hibs were condemned to another campaign outside of the top flight.

The season would end on a high note for Stubbs as he saw his side lift the Scottish Cup in what proved to be his final game in green and white before he became the new Millers manager.

A 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday saw Rotherham collect their first points of the Championship campaign and Ball is confident Stubbs will make an impact in England this term.

He told SportTimes: “It has been a tough start and our first two games were against Villa and Brighton who are two of the best teams in the league.

“We have brought a lot of players in, there are changes being made and we are getting used to each other and the way of playing. That does take a bit of time.

“That is football and I must have impressed the manager last season playing for Rangers. The move has obviously come from that.

“It just shows that you have always got to impress when you play. Any chance you get, you are playing to impress and that helped me get my move.

“Anyone who does well anywhere and has the right aspirations, whether that is a coach or a player, will attract attention and they will want to move up a level to challenge themselves.

“The manager realised that and to come and coach in the Championship is a challenge because it is a very tough league.

“You can see it when managers have the ability to move on and I saw that in the gaffer last year. He has got his move and hopefully I can help him do well.”
