DOMINIC BALL helped Rangers take the final step on ‘The Journey’ as Mark Warburton’s side secured their return to the top flight last term.

Now the 21-year-old has backed his former team-mates to stride towards Premiership glory in the coming months as the Light Blues set their sights on more silverware this season.

Ball arrived at Ibrox on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and quickly settled into life in Glasgow as he endeared himself to supporters and became a key part of Warburton’s plans.

It was to prove a more than useful experience for the defender as he made 30 appearances for the Gers and returned to White Hart Lane with two medals to his credit.

Just days after toasting their triumph in the Petrofac Training Cup at Hampden, Rangers were crowned second tier champions at Ibrox.

The arrival of ten new players has added strength and depth to Warburton’s squad and his side have taken seven points from their first three Premiership outings against Hamilton, Dundee and Motherwell.

Ball will keep a keen eye on the progress of the Light Blues in the coming weeks and months while he faces an altogether different challenge in the Championship with Rotherham.

And he is confident it can be another season to remember as Rangers look for more success under Warburton’s guidance.Glasgow Times: Dominic Ball in action for Rangers.

“The quality of the players they have brought in is very high,” Ball told SportTimes.

“We had a good side last year but the quality has gone up a lot. They have made some really good signings this summer.

“Speaking to the lads, they have all said it is really good, the intensity is high, the standard is high and that is going to benefit the team.

“They have started well and they are only going to get better. I think they will do really well this year.

“When you go to Rangers, you know you are going to be winning games and up there challenging for silverware.

“That is an environment you want to be in. It is a massive club that attracts good players.

“The manager knew what he was looking for and he has brought in some good players to go and win the league and push for the Champions League.

“With the players they have brought in, the squad now is easily good enough to go and win trophies this year.”

While Rangers battle it out with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Premiership title in the coming months, Ball has been reunited with an old foe in Yorkshire after he followed Alan Stubbs to the New York Stadium.Glasgow Times: Rangers' Dominic Ball celebrates after winning the Petrofac Training Cup

The former Spurs stopper has played in all three of Rotherham’s Championship fixtures this term as Stubbs has got off to a frustrating start south of the border.

Ball impressed in both centre-back and holding midfield roles for Rangers last term as he gained vital match experience in the pressurised Ibrox environment.

And he has no doubts that his time with the Gers will stand him in good stead as he prepares for a battle to beat the drop this time out.

Ball said: “Being with Rangers helped me massively and really benefitted me. It was my first season long loan and I was away from home.

“Off the pitch, it helped me mature, I was living on my own and it helped my game working under the manager, who is a top manager, and Davie Weir.

“To go into that sort of environment at a club like Rangers was perfect for me in terms of my development.

“I was playing games, I had opportunities to play in a team that was winning games so it was a very enjoyable season and I learned a lot from it.

“When I first went up there, my priority was to play games and develop as a player and a person. To get two medals was a massive bonus and they mean a lot.

“I was suspended for the Scottish Cup final and it was very disappointing not to win that because that would have topped it off and been a season to dream of.”

There may not have been a fairytale finale to his Rangers career but it was still a season to savour for Ball last term.

He formed a close bond with boss Warburton as the 53-year-old enjoyed a successful first campaign at Ibrox.

Warburton has repeatedly been linked with a return to England following his achievements with Brentford alongside assistant David Weir.

But Ball knows he will be determined to put more silverware in the Trophy Room in the coming months as Rangers look to challenge for a Treble this term.

He said: “The manager there is unbelievable. He brought me in, made it very comfortable for me and gave me the opportunity I needed.

“Every day he was talking to me, he was talking to Spurs about my development and to have that sort of relationship with him was great. It was just what I needed at the time.

“He went up there to win the league and he did the job he wanted to do. Now he will want to win the league this season and do that job.

“It will be his decision whether he wants to stay or not but it would be great for Rangers to keep him for as long as possible. I hope they do really well this season.”
