Lubomir Moravcik wasn’t just like every Hoops fans as he watched Celtic through splayed fingers on Wednesday night; as he chases tickets for next month’s game against Rangers he find himself in the boat as every other punter.

The little Slovakian is looking to bring a delegate of his countrymen to Celtic Park for the game after impressing on them how thunderous the games can be.

This is the first league game between Celtic and Rangers since the Ibrox side went into liquidation in 2012 and Moravcik will be there to see it – with a small band in tow, should he get his way.

“I have so far managed to get two tickets but I want at least six,” he said. “The club told me I could get a couple but I need more!

“I have told so many people about what the game is like and now I want them to come and see it for themselves. They are amazing games to play in and I am really looking forward to it – but I need more tickets.”

Moravcik had his fair share of highlights against Rangers – he took the Ibrox club by surprise when he netted twice in a 5-1 destruction of them in 1998 - and he believes that having a strong Rangers in the league will enhance the profile of the Scottish game around the world.

“There has been so much interest already and I do think that the Scottish game needs this game,” he said. “It is exciting. It is a headline. It makes a lot of people sit up and take notice and that can only be a good thing for Scottish football.

“It makes the league a bit more intense. If you have that, if you have a fight for the league then you have a lot of interest.”
