Dumbarton boss Stevie Aitken is refusing to be lulled into a false sense of security by the stuttering start today’s opponents have made to their Championship season.

The Sons visit a Falkirk side this afternoon who have picked up just a solitary point so far this term from three matches, a far cry from the form that saw them qualify for last season’s play-off final.

Aitken has warned his players though to beware of a reaction from Peter Houston’s side.

“There’s no doubt that Falkirk are a good side and they have proven that over the last few seasons,” Aitken said.

“They are only three games into this season so they certainly won’t be worried about their start.

“They’ll be expected to win against us, there’s no doubt about that given how well they did last season and the majority of those players are still there.

“They’re at home, there will be a big support there, and I’m sure that they’ll be looking towards this game to kick-start their season a wee bit.

“But we’re in a good place. It will be tough against Falkirk, there’s no doubt about that, and it was the same last week ahead of the trip to Cappielow because Morton are also a good side.

“Every game in this division is tough, there’s no easy matches, but we’ll go there with a game-plan and try to get something from it.

“When you look back at the Morton game we were a bit disappointed not to get the win. A couple of decisions went against us on the day, but we always say that if you can go to places like that away from home and pick up points then you’re doing well.

“We’ll take confidence from that and that’s two good results in a row after beating Dundee United too, so the boys are flying at the moment.

“Hopefully we can put another good show on against Falkirk.”

Aitken was given a further boost ahead of today’s match with some positive news on the injury front.

“It’s clearing up,” he said. “Darren Barr was in the squad last week and he will be again, and Garry Fleming will be back in the squad as well.

“Frazer Wright is the only one who will be about a bit longer, and it will probably be about three weeks before his Achilles injury clears up.

“Injuries hurt us a wee bit at the start, but hopefully that bad luck has cleared away now.”
