Linfield manager David Healy says he can’t wait to welcome “the best support in Scotland” to Windsor Stadium as Rangers travel to Northern Ireland to take part in Jamie Mulgrew’s testimonial.

Healy was blown away by the Ibrox support during his season and a half as a player at the club in 2011 and 2012, particularly when the club fell into administration during his time there.

He could scarcely believe it when the club later succumbed to liquidation shortly after he had left, but he says that the way the fans rallied to the cause proves they are the finest in the country.

“No matter how good or bad it has been at Rangers, they could always rely on the support,” Healy said.

“It is the best support in Scotland, although I’m sure that some will disagree. For me, being there though, they were the best.

“The way that everything was handled and treated and the money that went missing out of the club and everything else to do with the administration and the stories that came out, I don’t think anybody has been given the truth.

“I feel for the Rangers fans because they were the ones that were keeping the club afloat at the time, and I don’t think they’ve ever got the full disclosure on what happened and where the money went and why.

“They’re the ones that were hit in the pockets and credit to them, they rallied around the club as they always do.

“It looks now as if the club is going in the right direction with the right man in charge, and all things are rosy at Ibrox again.

“It’s great to see them back where they belong, but there is still disbelief that it all happened and I don’t think that the Rangers fans of all people have heard the full story.

“The support that they gave to the club was tremendous.”

Healy is looking forward to seeing those supporters again on Saturday, and he is sure the occasion will be a fitting tribute to a real Linfield stalwart.

“For the club it’s massive,” he said. “Everybody associated with both clubs knows how much Rangers are sought after in Belfast and Northern Ireland.

“There’s a huge support here that not only supports Linfield, but supports Rangers as well, so it’s a great coup for the club to bring them over.

“Any time they do come over it’s always a brilliant day at Windsor Park and I’ll be expecting the same on Saturday.

“Jamie has played over 400 games for the club and has been here for 10 years through a lot of successful years and a lot of not so successful years.

“He’s a Rangers supporter, so when I spoke to him last year about who he wanted to play it was always Rangers, and thankfully they’ve taken the time out to come and play.

“I remember being at Rangers and Linfield being the club that they are, they brought them over to raise a few quid for them in Belfast, and I don’t think that’s ever been forgotten.

“They are repaying that and it is great for Jamie and the club."
