FORMER Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra is considering a move back to Scottish football to join Kilmarnock.

The Algeria international won three league titles at Ibrox between 2008 and 2011 and is now a free agent after leaving Al Fujairah of the UAE earlier this summer.

There have been wholesale changes at Rugby Park recently, with Killie bringing in 15 new players during the summer window, but the Ayrshire club are understood to still be in the market for a centre-back.

With the transfer window now shut, Lee Clark's side are restricted to signing free agents and Bougherra has revealed he could be making a return to the Scottish top-flight.

He told STV: "I'm hoping to get my future sorted soon. Kilmarnock is an option in Scotland and I have possibilities including one in Australia."

The 33-year-old scored five goals in 108 appearances for the Gers and has also had spells in British football at Charlton Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and Crewe Alexandra.

After leaving the Light Blues in 2011, Bougherra joined Qatari side Lekhwiya before joining Fujairah in 2014.
