CELTIC face Barcelona at the Nou Camp tonight as huge underdogs, but the two teams are no strangers to one another.

The Hoops have squared up against Lionel Messi and co. no fewer than four times in the last four years, after they were drawn together in the Champions League group stages for two seasons in a row.

The rivalry is set to resume after Celtic's two-year absence from Europe’s top club competition, as Brendan Rodgers looks to build on his promising start as manager.

Barcelona 6-1 Celtic

A tough night at the office for the Celts as a Neymar hat-trick contributed to the club’s joint-heaviest European defeat in their history.

Gerard Pique’s goal got the ball rolling after only seven minutes, and the Catalans were 3-0 up by half-time thanks to strikes from Pedro and £49m man Neymar. The Brazilian sensation added two more before the hour mark and Cristian Tello notched a sixth before Giorgios Samaras got the least consolatory of consolation goals late on.

It was a bad night for Celtic’s record books, as the defeat also marked the end of their group stage campaign with a lowest-ever tally of three points.

Celtic 2-1 Barcelona

Teenage striker Tony Watt came off the bench to secure a shock win against Tito Vilanova's side and put a foot in the knockout stages.

Victor Wanyama had headed the Hoops in front in the first half before Watt doubled the lead late on, and Messi’s stoppage-time goal wasn’t enough to spark a fightback for the visitors as Neil Lennon celebrated a momentous win for his side.

Lennon’s side came within minutes of securing a precious point at the Nou Camp, but were scuppered by a stoppage-time goal from Jordi Alba.

The Bhoys had taken the lead through a Javier Mascherano own goal before Andres Iniesta netted a superb equaliser, but Alba’s late winner was a cruel gut punch after an impressive performance.
