Motherwell right-back Richard Tait is ready to use his experience in the rough and tumble of derby football in the English Conference to prepare him for the Lanarkshire version this Saturday.
The importance of this Saturday’s match against Hamilton to the club’s supporters is not lost on Tait, who arrived at Fir Park in the summer from Grimsby Town, and he is fired up to earn the bragging rights for ‘Well fans.
“There was a Conference one that was quite feisty, that was an FA Cup tie as well,” said Tait. “Tamworth versus Hinckley it was, that was quite a local one. It wasn’t a game of football, put it that way.
“I’m looking forward to it. Everyone who has played football has been involved in a derby at some point so we know what it means.
“It gives the game a little bit extra, especially for the fans. It’s getting one up on the other team as well as getting the points.”
The need for points is also not lost on Tait, with Motherwell failing to win since an opening day triumph against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
“We’ve had decent performances it’s just results that have been missing,” he said. “The place is buzzing still and good to be around.
“Three points are at stake and that’s the most important thing. Hopefully if we win we can start to build some momentum.”
Motherwell have meanwhile confirmed the signing of former Swansea City midfielder Lee Lucas.
The Wales Under-21 international was on trial at Fir Park throughout the summer and has earned a short-term contract after impressing manager Mark McGhee.
McGhee said: "I’m delighted that we’re able to sign Lee – he’ll be a valuable addition to our squad.
“As we’ve seen in recent weeks, injuries can hit at any point and Lee adds depth to the squad as well as bringing real ability and a great option.
“He is a technical midfielder, a good passer; a little different to what we have.”
