Brendan Rodgers has praised Scott Sinclair after the midfielder hit the Celtic record books this weekend.

It was ultimately a disappointing day in Inverness as the Hoops dropped two points, but Sinclair's performances sine he arrived at the club have justified Rodgers' pursuit of him this summer.

“If he ends up like Jimmy [McGrory] it’ll be alright, he’ll be in the Celtic musical," joked Rodgers.

"You can see his quality. He’s picked the ball up and I think that’s the beauty of this team, that we’re trying to develop. There is still a long way to go in the standard o four game with and without the all. We still have a long way to go with the standard of our game with and without the ball, for me there is still a lot of work to do but I think it’s at team that can work with the ball and create chances and we have a counter-attacking threat and that’s where his goal comes from. His ability to take the ball up the field very quicky is there and he has a hunger to score goals.

“He hasn’t had many miles on the clock. He is 27. You see his speed and his natural finishing ability. He will be disappointed he hasn’t scored more today.

“For him, he is really enjoying his life up here. He loves playing for Celtic. He is a player who will go on and be a great servant for the club."

Meanwhile, Rodgers also praised the performance of Inverness keeper Owain Fon Williams who kept Celtic at bay with a string of impressive saves, particularly in the second period.

"I thought he made some great saves, a couple of them looked like they were certs to go in," he said. "Obviously when the game is at 2-1 and no matter how dominant you are you need that third goal to get any sort of comfort in the game so when we didn’t get it we were leaving ourselves open a little bit to the equalising goal. But we have to defend it better.

“If you look at how creative we were, some of our play and interplay was fantastic. We were creating the chances and he made some great saves. But listen, it’s five games, three of which have been away at what you would consider tough places. We should have picked up three points today but we didn’t. It’s four wins and a draw for us on the back of what was a tough week. I’m proud of the players today in terms of their resilience and level of their game.”

And Rodgers was reluctant to commit on the Erik Sviatchenjo incident that could have seen the Dane sent off in the opening period.

"I haven’t seen it but they tell me some people have watched it eight times and they’re not sure," said the Hoops boss. " I thought the referee was good today.”
