IT has been many years since the Old Firm fielded an all-Scots line-up, but when doing so they achieved their greatest successes, with Celtic’s victory over Inter Milan in the 1967 European Cup Final and Rangers’ victory over Moscow Dynamo in the 1972 European Cup-Winners’ Cup Final…

BOYDY (Cadder) – Can you tell me how many Scottish players started the 2002 Scottish Cup Final between Rangers and Celtic?

Rangers won the Scottish Cup 3-2 after being 2-1 down. A Peter Lovenkrands double secured their victory.

Only two Scots started the game for Celtic, the goalkeeper Rab Douglas and Paul Lambert.

John Hartson and Bobo Balde were the Celts scorers.

Rangers only had three Scottish players in their starting eleven, Barry Ferguson, Neil McCann and Maurice Ross.

Barry Ferguson scored Rangers second equaliser.

NEUTRAL JOHN (Lochwinnoch) – Celtic won the Empire Exhibition Cup of 1938 and the Coronation Cup of 1953. However, how did Rangers do in these competitions?

Rangers were knocked out at the first hurdle in each competition. In the Empire Cup they lost 2-0 to Everton at Ibrox and in the Coronation Cup they lost 2-1 to Manchester Utd.

RONALD MASON (Erskine) – Thank you for your reply in your Now You Know section in the Evening Times regarding my question on Bill Brown and Alan Gilzean. As Dundee were on a roll in seasons 1962 and 1963, can you supply the following: What was the team that played in the 1963 Scottish Cup Final? When did Bert Slater sign from Liverpool and leave Dundee? And did Ian Ure leave for Arsenal before the cup final and when did he join Dundee? Once again it seems a lot to answer in one go, but I would be obliged if you can answer these questions.

I take it you mean the Scottish Cup Final of the 1963-64 season played on April 25, 1964.

Dundee lined up Slater, Hamilton, Cox, Seith, Ryden, Stuart, Penman, Cousin, Cameron, Gilzean and Robertson.

Cameron scored Dundee’s goal in a 3-1 defeat to Rangers.

Bert Slater arrived at Dens Park from Liverpool in the close season of 1962.

He left to join Watford in the close season of 1965. Ian Ure left Dundee to join Arsenal in the close season of 1963.

He had joined up at Dens Park from Junior club Dalry Thistle for the 1958-59 season.
