There was something inevitable about last night’s draw in the Betfred League Cup that paired Rangers and Celtic together.
It is an enticing semi-final and one that will attract widespread attention, I’m sure.
The last two games between the teams have been settled in the middle of the park and it will be interesting to see what the changes at Ibrox that have taken place this week may mean for this game.
Celtic completely dominated the central areas in the game almost a fortnight ago when they coasted to the 5-1 win, while the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden under Ronny Deila in April was the opposite as Celtic’s midfield didn’t turn up.
It is an exciting draw for everyone and I am sure that Celtic will go into full of confidence after the manner of the victory and the level of performance from the game a few weeks back. It also comes in the middle of the UEFA Champions League campaign, ensuring that it is another month in which it the club are going into major games one after the other.
Exciting times for everyone involved and I can guarantee anyone that this is a competition that Celtic will be desperate to win and set down that first marker for the season.
