MANCHESTER City defender Aleksandar Kolarov expects to face a green and white onslaught when his side run out at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.

The Serbian watched Barcelona rip the Scottish champions apart in their opening Champions League clash with a 7-0 drubbing.

Yet Kolarov believes that will not stop Brendan Rodgers' team coming out full throttle when they line up against their English foes as they respond to the roar of the pumped-up Parkhead crowd.

He said: "They are going to put 100 per cent intensity into the game because they are at home and trying to win the game.

"I saw the highlights of the game against Barcelona and it was a strange match. Yes they lost 7-0 but they missed a penalty at 1-0.

"We are expecting a very difficult game. Celtic is one of the biggest teams in the UK. They are playing at home with their amazing fans so they have to play like that.

"We know what will happen tomorrow but we are ready and our target is to win the game."

Pep Guardiola's methodical nature will ensure City are fully briefed on just where the chinks in Celtic's armour are located.

But Kolarov needs no extra warnings about the former team-mates he is set to come up against, with former Sky Blues players Kolo Toure and Scott Sinclair now in the Hoops ranks and current City youngster Patrick Roberts half-way through an 18-month Parkhead loan.

"I played with all of them and spent some years with them at City," said the 30-year-old.

"Kolo is an experienced player and has had a great career in England and now he is at Celtic.

"Scott didn't play a lot at City but I know him well and he's a great player.

"Patrick is a young guy with a great future. His strength is in the one-on-ones. He is quick and if you give him the space and time he can hurt you. We will try our best [to stop him].

"There is also the central midfielder who was on trial at City a couple of years ago, Nir Bitton, so I know him as well.

"He's a great player and they are helping Celtic dominate here in Scottish football."

Kolarov has been reborn under Guardiola, with the ex-Barca coach transforming the former utility man into a ball-playing centre-half.

He is now a firm fixture in the City line-up, a far cry from the latter stages of Manuel Pellegrini's reign last season when he appeared to be edging towards the Etihad exit following a slump in form.

Guardiola has even suggested a new deal for the former Lazio man could be on the table if he continues his impressive start to the season.

But Kolarov - whose contract runs to 2018 - is in no rush to strike a fresh agreement.

"It is still only September," he said. "Contract or not is no question. I've been here seven years. I'm 30 years old. I have a lot of experience so we will see.

"I'm enjoying playing at this moment for this club. It's part of my life already so we will see what is going to happen but obviously it is not going to be a problem for me to sign a new contract.

"It has been a big change [moving to centre-half]. I've never played there before but I'm enjoying the position. It is not like I have to play like a typical defender. I'm more involved in our play, so for me it has been comfortable.

"[The speculation about my future] was in the papers. I never spoke with anyone at Man City and they didn't say to me that I had to leave.

"The summer is a long time without football and the papers have to write something.

"I'm doing my best - I don't have to prove to the papers or anyone what I'm doing. I'm confident in my game and I know how much I am working.

"At the moment all the players are playing well and I'm part of the team - but I never had a doubt about staying at City."
