MICHAEL MOLS hopes football can emerge as a force for good in the world despite another money storm engulfing the game in recent days.

The former Rangers striker returned to Ibrox on Tuesday to promote the Light Blues’ long-standing relationship with UNICEF.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised in recent years to help children that are suffering in emergency situations across the world.

Football is once again on the front and back pages for all the wrong reasons and Mols was pleased to play his part in a positive partnership.

He said: “I’m also a father and I just had a presentation from UNICEF about what they are doing and then you see some footage of the kids and it’s really heart-breaking.

“I think they do a really good job. Unfortunately it’s still necessary. Looking at the information they gave me it will take a very long time to solve it, so there’s a long way to go.

“But every bit will help and I think Rangers are trying to do their bit too, not only in Scotland but with the partnership with UNICEF they show their responsibility also with the partnership worldwide.

“I think it would be a good idea when there are these headlines with Sam Allardyce, to show the footage of UNICEF and to see that money is not so important, to see the environment where the kids have to live now, having to leave their homes and everything.

“It’s really heart-breaking and maybe if he got the money he needs to donate it to charities like UNICEF.

“It’s a crazy world. I have to be honest myself, you see the footage on television about the situation and it’s terrible.

“But now you see an actual presentation from UNICEF itself and you hear the kids speaking about the situation and what they miss from not so much the good old days, but before the war or another disaster, then it’s really touches you or affects you.

“Then you realise how good we have it here and that we need to help others and if you see the footage about the manager, it’s all about greed.”
