MARTYN WAGHORN is determined to hit the goal trail and play his part in Rangers’ Premiership recovery in the coming weeks.

The striker has netted eight times in eight appearances for Mark Warburton’s side this term but only has one league goal to his credit.

It has been a frustrating few weeks for the Light Blues as they have struggled to turn their performances into points and slipped to seventh spot in the top flight standings.

A lack of cutting edge has cost the Gers dear and Waghorn will continue to strive for improvement in the final third.

“I done bits and bobs outside of football [in the summer] trying to sharpen up and I think I can always improve my finishing,” he said.

“I missed a few chances last year that should have went in. As a striker, you always want to improve and score as many chances as you can.

“Going up a level to the Premiership you might not get as many so it is about being ruthless.

“I am probably my own worst critic in terms of missing chances. It hurts and I get really disappointed.

“I know, as a striker, you are going to miss chances but, for me, and with the standards that I set I don’t want to be missing them. It is something that I can work on and add to my game.”

Rangers suffered their second Premiership defeat of the campaign last weekend as they went down 2-1 to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Boss Warburton was pleased with the performance of his side despite the Gers losing further ground to Old Firm rivals Celtic.

And there was a positive for Waghorn as he got more match minutes under his belt following a spell out of action with a hamstring injury.

“It was a good tempo game on Sunday that tested my legs and my fitness is getting back,” he told the Official Rangers Podcast.

“I think overall I am very pleased with where I am at and that is due to the work that I done with the physio department.”
