COTY Garcia’s heroics helped sink Glasgow’s League Cup dream last year – now the Argentinian wants to be the man Tigers fans talk about for the right reasons in this season’s showdown.

The Ashfield side will take on Somerset in the first leg of the final on Sunday should they avoid a huge defeat at Workington on Saturday night.

Garcia had been racing in British speedway for just a few months when he scored vital points as a guest for Edinburgh in the 2015 final against Glasgow – taking the scalp of No 1 Richard Lawson in the process.

But he is now eyeing cup glory with his own team in his first full season in the UK.

Garcia, 22 – who will sit out of tonight's Premier League visit to Edinburgh after a few heavy crashes at the weekend – said: "The atmosphere in last year’s final was amazing, and that was before I knew that Glasgow and Edinburgh were proper rivals.

"It was nice to win the meeting, but it was a shame for Glasgow that they couldn’t make it. This year will be different though.

"I would love to be the hero for Glasgow in 2016."

Garcia insists there’s "no pressure" on the Tigers, despite being heavily tipped for a clean sweep pre-season.

He said: "For me, there is no pressure – it’s just great to be part of the team.

"I’m really looking forward to the match. At the start of the season Glasgow were favourites to win everything and it was expected we would be in finals. But now we’re just looking forward and we will try to win everything.

"It’s not about the medal for me, it’s about the experience, and in my first full season in the Premier League and with Glasgow, it would be nice to win something.

"Many riders in the Premier League have never won anything, so it would be nice to be part of that.

"We need every single fan of Glasgow coming to cheer on the boys and give us more of a home advantage."

Meanwhile, team boss Stewart Dickson insists tonight's Premier League fixture at Edinburgh is far from meaningless.

The match won't have any bearing on either sides' prospects with the play-offs already decided, but Dickson - who has a couple of guests in for injured Garcia and ill Aaron Summers - still wants victory.

He said: "This weekend is just as big for me as last weekend was. I hear all the talk that Edinburgh's a meaningless match - not for me it's not. I want to go through and beat them.

"I want to beat Workington and I want to beat Somerset on Sunday.

"When you reach the finals, this is what comes - the guys don't have a lot of time to recover between meetings. We don't need to rush riders back, and that's with no disrespect to those fixtures."
