CLINT HILL was pleased Rangers showed a different side to their game with a battling victory over Inverness on Friday night.

Mark Warburton’s side returned to action after the international break and got a crucial Premiership win on the board in the Highlands.

A terrific first half effort from Kenny Miller was all that separated the sides as the Light Blues moved up to fourth spot in the standings.

Caley forward Lonsana Doumbouya provided Hill and partner Rob Kiernan with a tough physical test and the 37-year-old was satisfied with a job well done in the end.

Hill said: “We picked up on that on the analysis, and he’s given a few players a rough time in the last few weeks, and it’s something we knew we had to try and get on top of early.

“Thankfully Rob and I managed to deal with most of what he had. It was a tough game all round, but I’m glad we came through it.

“The second half maybe wasn’t perfect football-wise, but I think we showed a different bravery – sticking our heads on things, getting our bodies in the way of shots and getting into tackles, and these are all part and parcel of winning the game as well.”

With back-to-back leagues wins now under their belt, attentions will switch to the Betfred Cup this weekend as the countdown begins to the second of Old Firm clash of the campaign.

The Gers went down 5-1 at Parkhead last month and Hill knows Warburton’s side have to give a far better account of themselves this time out.

“We have a few points to prove there I think,” he told RangersTV.

“We didn’t really turn up at their place a few weeks back, so hopefully we can go there with a fully-fit squad and play the way we really want to play and give them a tough game.

“The last time, we didn’t really play the football we know we can, nor did we get in the faces of the opposition. We want to rectify that and definitely make more of a game of it this time.”
