Ryan Edwards may be in the best form of his Partick Thistle career at the moment, but the Australian says he would swap all the plaudits he is getting for his team to get three points this Saturday.

The club's player of the month has been consistently impressive over the last few weeks for Thistle, whether screening the back four in a deep-lying midfield role or playing in behind the striker.

From there, he bagged his first goal of the season to equalise against Hamilton on Saturday, but after Liam Lindsay had put the Jags ahead, they failed to hold out for the win.

Until they manage to break their sequence of seven games without a victory, Edwards says he won’t be able to enjoy his richest vein of form since coming to Scotland.

“I think the run of games has been great for me and has got my confidence up,” Edwards said.

“I think I’m performing reasonably well, and it was the same last season towards the end where I got a run of games and finished the season quite strongly.

“I’ve been training hard trying to get into the team, and I’ve done that. There’s a large number of midfielders in the squad knocking on the door to get in there.

“That means I have to stay on the top of my game to stay in, and I think I’ve managed to do that so far. Hopefully that continues.

“I was very happy to score my first goal of the season. I’ve had a few chances to get off the mark so I was pleased with that.

“I doubt it will be goal of the season! I was a bit lucky in that I made a run into the box and got the easy tap-in, and I was obviously stoked to see the ball hit the back of the net.

“It’s difficult to enjoy your own good form though when the team aren’t winning, because it’s a team game and we want three points above all else.

“It’s disappointing when you have a personal accolade or you score a goal and we’re not getting the results. Everyone in the changing room, if they win that award would trade it to move up the table, 100%.

“The player of the month was my first award that I’ve won in professional football, so that was obviously pleasing, but we don’t want to be at the bottom of the table.

“If I could trade any of those performances for a win and moving up the table, I would take that every day of the week.”

The next opportunity for Thistle to get their first win since the league’s opening day comes at home this Saturday against an out of sorts Ross County.

Edwards says that if his side manage to get their noses in front again in this one they must see the game out, even if it means compromising some of their footballing principles.

“We’ve spoken as a team about the fact that we may need to start winning ugly,” he said.

“We know we are playing good football and playing an expansive style, but maybe that has left us a bit open at the back.

“Towards the end of the last few games especially we’ve been quite open and it’s been end-to-end.

“We may need to work on one or two things to rectify that, and we may need to start winning ugly to get three points.

“The Hamilton game was a must-win, but taking the positives from it, at least we moved off the bottom of the table.

“We’ve got Ross County and Dundee now, and those are both big six-pointers as well. We’ve really got to pick up three points on Saturday, definitely.

“What we don’t want to happen is to end up playing catch-up, we want to be looking down at teams rather than looking up and trying to chase them.

“It’s really important that we get maximum points from the next two games.”
