CRAIG GORDON
He pulled off three saves in the first half, the first one superb, and some cool kicking under pressure proved that he has returned with far greater belief. Could do little with either goal. 7
MIKAEL LUSTIG
Spent an awful lot of the game making sure the ball was cleared out of his own penalty area as the German piled crosses into his area. Put in a couple of great tackles, worked hard but was overwhelmed by what he was up against. 6
KOLO TOURE
What a mixed night. It was easy to lose count of the number of blocks and tackles he made. He saved a goal by getting to the dangerous Tobias Strobl but he erred at the first and wasn't too clever for the second. 6
ERIK SVIATCHENKO
A great tackle on Andre Hahn in the first-half prevented him from getting off a shot on target, a challenge which typified his night. There were still too many passes allowed through the central of defence.. One superb last-gasp tackle on Hahn saved a certain goal. Did okay. 6
KIERAN TIERNEY
He endured some start to the game. Three times Borussia got down his wing and he had to dig deep in those early exchanges. Did get forward but he wasn't getting much help. Even he could do little about the result. 6
SCOTT BROWN
He got caught out a couple of times in possession; however, as you would expect from a captain he grafted until there was nothing left. Had to go deeper than a Radiohead song to get on the ball in the second-half. In truth, he had to much to deal with. 6
NIR BITTON
What a frustrating player. When on the ball, the midfielder looks such an elegant performer but too often he was caught out of possession as the Germans flooded the centre of the park. He gave away the ball on many occasions and you could sense the crowd was not impressed. 5
JAMES FORREST
Not a night for the winger. There was two makers on him every time and he hardly got a touch. He tends either to be good or anonymous. This was the latter. 5
TOM ROGIC
Some nice moments, one pass to Sinclair was sublime, but he was feeding on scraps in his role behind Demeble. He is capable of great things but this wasn’t his night at all. Tried but nothing came off 6
SCOTT SINCLAIR
Put a shot over the bar before half-time and sent a header wide just after the break. He was well shackled but always looked for the ball and if anyone was going to score you felt it would be him. 6
MOUSSA DEMBELE
The three-man defence did not give the young Frenchman as much as a sniff. Even this fine player is going to find scoring a tricky task with not an inch of space to play with. Looked so frustrated. 5
Substitutes
CALLUM MCGREGOR
Was asking a bit much for him to change the game. 5
LEIGH GRIFFITHS
Hardly got a touch in his 20 minutes. 5
PATRICK ROBERTS
Some nice moments late on but the game was gone by the time he got the chance to run at players. 5
Not used: De Vries, Izaguirre, Simunovic, Armstrong
