JUST a couple of months after announcing his retirement from international football, Scott Brown is on the verge of a return to the Scotland squad.

The game against England next month is a huge one for Gordon Strachan’s side and our World Cup campaign. It is a game that Scott obviously wants to play in.

There is no doubt that Scott is benefitting from being injury free and he has been a key player for Celtic this season. He was getting a lot of stick last year and he wasn’t contributing but it is a different story now.

But I think if you say that you have retired from international football and that you don’t want to play for Scotland anymore then that should be you.

It would be unfair to the players that are there if he was to walk straight back into the team.

They had to graft through the last few games without Scott, and they have struggled at times. But you can’t have someone saying ‘I want to play again’ and he comes back into the side.

Scott may have found himself missing the international fixtures and there is obviously an attraction of coming back and playing England at Wembley.

But he knew these games were coming up and he made the decision to not make himself available for selection.

I think there would be some players that would be a bit upset by it and you are certainly not going to be happy if you find yourself out of the team because of it.

There will be others that will look at it and think that Scotland have a better chance of beating England with Brown in the team so they will welcome him back.

But I don’t think everyone will be 100 per cent behind it and it would be a big call for Gordon to make ahead of what is such a crucial game for him and the country.
