MOTHERWELL midfielder Chris Cadden has extended his contract at Fir Park until the summer of 2019.

The 20-year-old has excelled in the heart of midfield for Mark McGhee's side this season, resulting in a Scotland Under-21 debut against Macedonia in September.

The Steelmen confirmed on Thursday that the academy graduate has penned a contract extension that will keep him at the club for the next three seasons.

“I am so pleased to have this all sorted now," Cadden said.Glasgow Times:

“I am more than happy to stay and continue to develop at Motherwell, a club I’ve been involved with for almost all my life.

“I want to work hard for the team, the club, the supporters and also for the manager, who I am indebted to for giving me a chance and believing in me.”

Motherwell boss and Scotland national team assistant McGhee addded: “Chris has performed unbelievably well and has shown an outstanding level of consistency for such a young player.

“Not only that, he’s imposing himself on games and is one of the most dangerous and explosive attacking forces in the division. You need only look at last Saturday’s game to see the sort of impact he can make.

“We’re delighted he has agreed to extend his stay with us and we will continue to try and develop him both personally and professionally.”

Cadden has been a mainstay in McGhee's side so far this season, scoring three goals in 16 Premiership and League Cup appearances.
