HE has miles on the clock but is still a driving force for Rangers. He helped the Light Blues complete The Journey and remains as determined as ever to lead the way on the road to success.

Kenny Miller may be in the twilight of his career but he shows no signs of being forced into life in the slow lane as he continually hits top gear for Mark Warburton’s side.

He will turn 37 before Rangers bid farewell to what has been a hectic year on and off the park. He will hope 2017 brings more highs than lows at Ibrox.

Miller has netted three times for Mark Warburton’s side this term, the last of which saw him hit 100 for the Gers in stunning style against Inverness Caley Thistle.

But his impact on the pitch has been more significant than just his goals tally, while his influence off it is arguably more important now than it has been at any time during his three spells at the club.

And former Gers striker Peter Lovenkrands is pleased to see Miller rising to the challenge as he has become an integral part of Warburton’s plans once again this term.

“I am not surprised to see him still playing at the level he is because Kenny is a fit guy and he has proven that throughout his career,” he said.

“You see his energy levels on the pitch and I know how he is in training as well. He trains hard but he looks after himself.

“I know Kenny well and I am pleased to see him doing so well and getting his 100th goal for Rangers.

“I don’t see why he can’t keep going on beyond this season. If he keeps proving himself and keeps scoring then he will want to keep playing.”

Of all the deals that boss Warburton has sanctioned in the last two years at Ibrox, the contract that Miller agreed has proven to be one of the shrewdest moves.

The striker has been deployed across the front three throughout the campaign and he is a player that Warburton will have to rely on as he looks to fix Rangers’ faltering Premiership form.

The top flight silverware is already outwith the Light Blues’ reach but Lovenkrands knows Miller’s professionalism and desire will ensure he will continue to cajole and encourage during a crucial few months for Warburton and his side.

He said: “You know what you are getting from Kenny, not only on the pitch but in the dressing room as well.

“He is a great figure to look up to for the players and how he is as a man is very important. I think the manager is pleased with that and it means a lot to have him there. Kenny does a really good job for the team and the squad.

“It is invaluable for the players that are coming into the club but also for the younger players that are coming through. He knows about the club, the history of Rangers and what it takes to be successful here.

“He fits in well with the squad. He doesn’t feel like a 36-year-old and is great to see him doing so well. He is a real asset to the club.”

If Rangers are to salvage their season and secure an acceptable Premiership finish this term, Warburton will need his star names to shine in the top flight.

The end of the campaign will be a time to assess and regroup ahead of their second campaign back at this level.

There are no indications that this season will be Miller’s last in a blue jersey but Lovenkrands believes the forward will have plenty to offer in the game when he does decide to hang up his boots.

He said: “I could see him moving into coaching or management. A lot of players get their badges so they have an option and if that is the way that Kenny wants to go then I am sure he will be a success.

“He loves football and he talks so well about the game. He could talk the ears off the young boys!

“If I was a young player coming through here, I would be delighted to have the chance to work with someone who has done what he has done in his career.

“He has played at the top level and that experience is invaluable. Not a lot of people have that background going into a coaching role.”

Miller may continue to defy the odds and silence his doubters but his Ibrox compatriots still have a point to prove in the Premiership.

A lack of cutting edge has cost Rangers this term as Warburton’s side have fallen eleven points adrift of Celtic and to third in the standings.

It has been an inconsistent start to the season for Martyn Waghorn, while Joe Garner has scored three times since his £1.8million move from Preston.

Lovenkrands said: “The goals are there. Martyn scored 28 last season and he could have had a lot more if he hadn’t picked up that bad injury.

“He has got eight this year and it has been hard for him to get back in. But he will score goals for Rangers this year.

“Joe has got a couple now and the more he gets the more confidence he will have. He just needs to get going and once he gets going he knows he will gets chances to score.

“I think those three have enough goals between them and hopefully they all do well this season.”
