MURDO MACLEOD reckons Celtic will never have a better chance of clinching the Treble as Brendan Rodgers’ side set their sights on a domestic clean sweep.

The Hoops are well on course to land a sixth successive Premiership crown after a superb start to the season.

After facing Kilmarnock this evening, Celtic will look to lift the Betfred Cup when they go head-to-head with Aberdeen at Hampden.

And MacLeod is confident Rodgers can lead his side to glory and mark his first campaign at Parkhead in style.

He said: “You would like to think they will win the Treble this year. Obviously, it will be a tough game against Aberdeen a week on Sunday because they have been a strong side for the past two years and the main challenges.

“But I just think a cup final at Hampden with Brendan Rodgers looking for his first trophy Celtic will be up for the game.

“They have to turn up to win it. People talk about Trebles as if it happens frequently but it doesn’t.

“There is usually a sting in the tail in Scottish football when a small team can win a cup.

“But this isn’t a small team we’re talking about it’s Celtic’s biggest rivals in the league just now.

“It’s looking like Celtic will never have a better chance and even the players are talking about it.

“In the past it was ‘don’t mention the Treble’ until the first trophy was won and I think the way the team has been playing there is every chance.

“It would not be diminished simply because Celtic are so strong. Winning a Treble is special – it doesn’t matter who is in the league.

“It would have been the same in the last two or three seasons as well because Rangers were still in the cup competitions.

“It’s special because you just have to look at the amount of cup upsets in recent years.

“Just look at last year. How did Ross County and Hibs get to the League Cup Final? Where were Celtic, Aberdeen or Hearts and even Rangers?”
