Brendan Rodgers has claimed the Ladbrokes Manager of the Month award – but has insisted that the accolade is for the players and coaches at the club.

Celtic remain unbeaten domestically while still fighting in the UEFA Champions League.

It has been an impressive opening few months to the season for Rodgers who is keen to maintain the standard that has been set.

“It is a great tribute to the players and the staff and how hard they have been working,” he said. “It has been a good month for us in terms of performances and results; hopefully we get it again next month as well.

“It is testimony to the work and the appetite for the team to be better and win and play well. I never tend to look at these things on an individual level but it is nice for the team and the management staff to get that recognition.”

Meanwhile, there is a question mark for Celtic over the left-back berth tonight with Emilio Izaguirre reporting back from international duty with Honduras only yesterday and Kieran Tierney a long-term absentee.

“The thing I love about Emilio and what I have found with a lot of the South American players that I have worked with is that they are very tough, very robust,” said Rodgers.

“They want to play all the time. From what I have seen from Emilio he is no different to all the other South American lads I have worked with.

“They love football, they are very rarely injured unless it is a serious injury. They work and they play and they train every single day but of course I need to be mindful of the travel and everything. It is where the Friday night game kills us really. I will need to see how he is.

“We had 14 players and we still have two who aren’t back until Thursday. The boys who have been away are fine.

“It may do [create a problem at left-back]. We may need to adjust and adapt and go from there.”
