RANGERS got back to winning ways in the Premiership but left it late to overcome Dundee at Ibrox.

Substitute Harry Forrester netted the only goal of the game with an injury-time header to snatch all three points for Mark Warburton’s side.

Rangers remain third in the top flight standings and are a point adrift of Aberdeen following their win away to Inverness Caley Thistle.

Boss Warburton stuck with the same starting line-up that faltered against Ross County last time out as he gave his side a chance to make amends for a slack showing in the Highlands.

It was a positive start from the Gers as they controlled possession but there was no goal to give the Ibrox crowd something to cheer on a chilly Glasgow afternoon.

Joe Garner had the first chance as he collected a pass from Josh Windass, spun well on the edge of the area and fired a low shot just wide of target.

His next effort was more ambitious as he tried to chip keeper Scott Bain after winning an aerial battle with Darren O’Dea and he would be involved in several more scraps with the former Celtic defender.

Garner and Windass combined again after 16 minutes but there was once again no end product, Kenny Miller unable to connect as he drifted in off the left flank.

Dundee were offering little threat but they competed well and were frustrating Rangers as Garner and Windass continued to look the biggest threats for the Light Blues.

Wes Foderingham had didn’t have much to do at the other end but he pulled off a decent stop to deny Tom Hateley as he curled in a long-range free-kick.

There were a smattering of boos around Ibrox at the break and few reasons for the home crowd to get off their seat after the restart.

Garner fired an effort over the bar before Warburton turned to his bench for the first time.

The change saw Barrie McKay take over from the impressive Windass and the decision was met with derision from the home ranks.

The pressure was building on Rangers as Dundee began to look more threatening, Hateley’s free-kick tipped over by Foderingham before Kevin Gomis passed up a glorious chance from a cross from the former Motherwell midfielder.

With 20 minutes remaining, Joe Dodoo took over from Michael O’Halloran and Jason Holt almost gave the Gers the lead but his shot was well saved by Bain.

The clock was against Rangers now as they searched for a much-needed winner and Warburton had his final roll of the dice as Miller made way for Forrester.

Keeper Bain was again forced into action as he stopped an Andy Halliday free-kick before he easily held a McKay strike.

With just seconds remaining, Forrester emerged as the Light Blue hero as he flicked home a Dodoo cross from left flank.

It was a disappointing end for Dundee after a spirited defensive showing but a huge moment for Warburton and Rangers.
