Mark Wilson has urged the Hoops fans to raise the roof off Celtic Park as they take on Barcelona tomorrow night.

Brendan Rodgers’ side host the Catalan side in their penultimate Group C game as they fight to stay afloat in Europe after Christmas.

The odds are heavily stacked against Celtic as they go into the game against Barca, but Wilson believes that the energy and spirit of the home support can give the Parkhead players a lift.

“They almost took the roof off the place when they played Manchester City,” said Wilson.

“Even for me, I would have to say that it was one of the best atmospheres that I had ever heard and seen inside the stadium.

“There is a real connection between Celtic and the Champions League. The supporters love it and there is a belief that the club are where they belong when they are in it.

“There is no doubt that they have a part to play.

“Of course, ultimately the players have the job of delivering on the pitch but walking out of the tunnel to that wall of noise and green and white just gives you a real lift.”

And Wilson also believes that if Celtic are to get anything from the game then they need to believe.

Barcelona’s line-up will include some of the world’s most coveted and expensive assets with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez all capable of causing significant problems to any team.

However, Wilson has urged Celtic to go into the game fully focussed and ready to take any half chance they get.

“You can’t be overawed in the Champions League,” said Wilson. “You can’t afford to think about who these guys are and the worldwide fame that they have.

“You have to focus. You have got to be ready to fight tooth and nail for one another and I am sure the Celtic lads will do that.

“Essentially, what you want to see is that they start the game against Barca the way they did against Manchester City.

“Of course, it is easier said than done. Top teams come and want to impose themselves on you and you have to fight to make it the other way around.

“But we have seen some strong football from Celtic in this competition this season, especially going forward.

“We all know it is a long shot. We would all expect Barcelona to win the game but as a player you go out there and you leave nothing on the park. You give it your all and you just never know that if you get a wee bit of the rub of the green then you can come away with what would be an absolutely huge result.”
