Partick Thistle defender Liam Lindsay is desperate to make up for his video nasty last weekend by shining in front of the TV cameras against Rangers on Saturday.

The Jags went down 2-0 to Motherwell at Firhill in their previous outing and Lindsay was left to rake over the debris of a costly collision with his own keeper which gifted Louis Moult the opening goal for the hosts.

Thorsten Stuckmann, the Thistle custodian, took full responsibility for the defensive debacle in the game’s aftermath but in this ultimate team game, Lindsay is not one to apportion blame.

It was a hands-over-the-eyes moment for the 21-year-old but despite the X-rated nature of the howler, Lindsay made sure he pored over the footage as he found himself the focus of his own episode of candid camera.

He said: “After the game and at night a mistake like that is playing on your mind and you’re thinking about it quite a bit.

“But you’ve got to be tough mentally and try to forget it. When something like that happens you’re tempted just to say ‘I’ll not bother watching the highlights tonight’. But it’s good to see it and analyse it and see where I can perform better.

“It’s something you can learn from and as a defender these things are part of the game. It was one of those football things. I don’t want to throw people under a bus but Thorsten shouldn’t have come for it. I saw it and was about to clear it and he came out. I didn’t hear him shout and that was it. We had a chat about it on Tuesday and he put his hands up and said ‘it was my fault’. We all make mistakes. It’s a team game and we move on.”

“Rangers will be a good test and there’s plenty of incentive for us. The match is being televised and you don’t want to make a fool of yourself on the TV. We want to test ourselves and bounce back from last weekend. To a man, Motherwell were better than us and seemed more up for it. We need to put that right.”

Lindsay is still finding his feet in the school of hard knocks that is the Ladbrokes Premiership but the Firhill defender reckons some of his more bitter experiences will stand him in good stead.

Lindsay, who has had loans stints with Alloa and Airdrie, added: “Mentally, I’m getting stronger. I’m young and still learning the game. When you do make a mistake it can be hard but I know how to deal with these setbacks now.”

In Thistle manager Alan Archibald, Lindsay has an ideal mentor and doesn’t have far to look for pearls of defensive wisdom.

He said: “The manager knows what I’m going through. He’s been there and done it and that includes the mistakes. They are part of the game. The management team have confidence in me and by keeping playing me, that helps my own confidence. They have faith in me and hopefully I can repay that over this big run of games for us. The manager is pretty calm and composed but you know when he is disappointed and he was after the Motherwell game. It’s up to us to do something about it.

“It’s a tough run coming up but one we’re looking forward to. Things can happen in this league. Most of the teams can take points off anybody."
