RATTLE ON can be followed with a degree of optimism when he lines up beneath the Chelmsford floodlights.

Trained in Epsom by Jim Boyle, the three-year-old has yet to win a race in five starts to date.

But he got jolly close over this course and distance in October, and must have every chance of going one place better in division one of the Follow Us On Twitter At Chelmsfordcrc Handicap.

The gelded son of Pivotal did not appear to get home over a mile and a quarter on his first four racecourse appearances, in which he looked distinctly moderate at best.

Boyle's decision to step back to a mile nearly worked a treat last month as he surged home for second place, beaten two lengths by Little Choosey.

Liam Keniry's companion had to sit and suffer for a long way in the straight before he was given the office, but by that time it was too late.

Be that as it may, Rattle On was still a mile clear of the third horse home and is clearly capable enough to win a small race like this and has Tom Queally on board.

Division two can belong to the Pam Sly-trained Pacific Salt.

The three-year-old grey found an extended mile and a quarter too demanding at Kempton last time - especially as he was too keen for his own good - but should be much more at home in Essex.

Pacific Salt was a big eyecatcher on his penultimate start over this course and distance, when he came with a rare rattle from a troublesome draw to finish fourth behind Celtic Artisan.

The gelded son of Zebedee races at Chelmsford off the same mark of 65, which is certainly appealing.

As, too, is the fact that 3lb claimer Callum Shepherd is back on board.

It is worth remembering that Shepherd was at the helm when Pacific Salt won by a neck at Leicester during the summer.

Elkstone rates a solid shout in the Weatherbys Novices' Handicap Chase at Towcester.

The Caroline Bailey-trained five-year-old was no great shakes over hurdles, but he is clearly capable of much better over fences.

Despite having fallen three out on his chasing debut at Huntingdon earlier this month, Bailey must have been heartened by the assured manner in which he jumped throughout a three-mile handicap chase for novices.

That he was also backed off the boards before the race also tends to suggest he has been doing everything right at home.

Those prepared to forgive him for that momentary lapse in concentration can be rewarded in spades as Elkstone takes an intriguing drop back to two miles.

Bright Prospect should not be too far away from the thick of the action in the racinguk.com Chase at Musselburgh.

Trained in Aberdeenshire by Jackie Stephen, the in-form seven-year-old was a little unlucky at Ayr last month when he succumbed by just a head to So Satisfied in a similar sort of handicap chase for novices.

So Satisfied was getting stacks of weight off the selection so it has to go down as another laudable effort from Stephen's charge.

Bright Prospect has gone up 4lb, but he is a tough and genuine performer with scope for further progress over fences.

Definite Outcome appeals in the Falcon Vehicle Solutions Chase at Taunton.

The seven-year-old made a successful fencing debut at Chepstow in October and appeared poised for a double at Aintree until he made a terrible blunder and unseated Jonathan Moore.

Definite Outcome, who was considered good enough to run in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, looks to have been found an ideal race to set the record straight.
