CELTIC have had many memorable European nights at Parkhead over the years, and one epic encounter against Juventus in 2001 ranks as one of the best by many Hoops supporters…

JONNY McKAY (Paisley) – Can you give details of the Champions League tie played at Celtic Park around 2001 between Celtic and Juventus?

One of the all-time great European nights at Parkhead, this classic took place a surprising 15 years ago last month, and was the final match of a Champions League group which also included Porto and Rosenberg.

A spectacular free-kick from Allesandro Del Piero had given Juventus the lead on the 19th minute, before Joos Valgaeren equalised with a powerful header.

Another thundering header, this time from Chris Sutton, on the stroke of half-time gave Celtic a 2-1 lead at the break.

David Trezeguet came off the bench at half-time and immediately caused havoc in the Celtic defence, finding an equaliser five minutes after the restart, having already had one ruled out for offside.

Roared on by what both Pavel Nedved and Martin O’Neill later described as the greatest crowd either ever encountered in their careers, Celtic moved into a 4-2 lead thanks to a Henrik Larsson penalty, and a goal Chris Sutton would later identify as the greatest of his career, a magnificent swivelling volley into the top corner.

Trezeguet pulled one back on the 77th minute, but Celtic held out for a magnificent victory.

Celtic: Douglas, Valgaeren, Balde, Mjallby, Agathe, Petta, Lennon, Lambert, Moravcik (Petrov), Larsson, Sutton.

Juventus: Carini, Ferrara, Paramatti, Del Piero (Trezeguet), Nedved, Luliano, Zenoni, Birindelli, Tacchinardi, Amoruso (Pessotto) Maresca (Frara).

AULD JIMMY (Bearsden) – The recent answer to a question which featured Jerry Dawson's injury in the cup final against Hibs sparked a debate with my pal. He reckons Bobby Brown took over as Rangers' goalkeeper from Dawson, whereas I maintain there was another keeper between them. Can you settle this argument?

You are partially correct, as there were two first-choice goalkeepers prior to Bobby Brown establishing himself as the regular custodian.

Dawson's injury occurred in the final match of season 1943/44, and at the start of the next season, 1944/45, George Jenkins the long-serving reserve took over.

Dawson made one appearance in February, then came back in September 1945 and held the position until November when John Shaw displaced him.

Shaw tends to be a forgotten figure among former Rangers, maybe due to his more famous namesake at left-back John "Tiger" Shaw, but John performed well enough to maintain the number one position for the rest of season 1945/46, making 27 league and cup appearances.

Bobby Brown then arrived from Queen’s Park for the start of the next season and of course had a long illustrious career as Rangers' goalkeeper.

TRUE RED (Clarkston) – When and what was the score the last time Aberdeen and Celtic met in the League Cup Final with the Dons winning?

The game was played at Hampden on November 6, 1976, in front of 69,679 fans.

The Dons came from behind to win 2-1 (aet) with goals from Drew Jarvie and Davie Robb after Kenny Dalglish had given Celtic the lead from the spot.
