EMILIO IZAGUIRRE last night promised Celtic's supporters the players will not suffer any European hangover and are determined to celebrate the club's 100th honour on Sunday.

The Honduras international revealed that everyone in the dressing room's focus immediately turned to beating Aberdeen in the Betfred League Cup Final only minutes after their 2-0 defeat to Barcelona, a result which meant there was no chance of even qualifying for the Europa League and the Parkhead men will finish bottom of their group.

Izaguirre was disappointed but not despondent at the Celtic bowed out of the Champions League to a Lionel Messi double.

And if Aberdeen felt that such a tiring match and negative outcome could impact on their opponents come Sunday at Hampden, then the popular left-back insisted that would be anything but the case.

Izaguirre said: "Barcelona are the best team in the world. It's as simple as that. We tried our best, but it was so difficult to play against them.

"But now we focus on the cup final. That now means everything. The most important thing is the future, not the past.

"We have to put this game behind us. Sunday is a huge match for all of us and I am looking to win another medal for Celtic.

"This club is all about winning titles and this is a fantastic chance to do it again in front of our supporters.

"We need to win this final. We are disappointed to lose at Celtic Park, we never want to do that, but we can make it up for it soon.

"We will wake up on Thursday and think about the Aberdeen game."

Izaguirre, who gave away a penalty for Barcelona's killer second, has been at Celtic Park for over six years during which time a lot of players have come and gone.

And he believes that next season this improving group will achieve more in Europe than they managed this time.

Izaguirre said: "This was a good experience for us, for all the players and the new manager.

"We have learned a lot from the games and we can use that next year in the Champions League.

"It was still very nice to play Barcelona even if we lost. It was a beautiful atmosphere, the fans were superb, and we did well at times, especially at the start.

"This is still a new team, a young team. We can become a lot better than we are right now.

"The manager has us playing good football and that is great for the future of Celtic. We have a mix of experience and youth, which is what you need."

The wonderful Messi was the big difference on a night when Celtic had chances, but were second best to a team who could go on and win the tournament in May.

Nobody wearing green and white were disgraced; however, when a certain Argentine is around and in the mood there is little anyone can do to stop him.

And Izaguirre admitted: "Messi is unbelievable. He is a champion, the best player in the world and you can't forget that.

"But on the pitch, while we respect him, we have to play our normal way - but he is fantastic."
