KENNY MILLER is confident Rangers can go some way to cementing second spot in the Premiership standings by seeing off their top flight rivals in the coming weeks.

Mark Warburton’s side face Partick Thistle on Saturday aiming to make it two wins from two after their late victory over Dundee last time out.

The Gers then head to Tynecastle in midweek before welcoming Aberdeen and Hearts to Ibrox to round-off a huge run of fixtures.

And striker Miller hopes Warburton’s side can lay the foundations for their bid to become best of the rest in the Premiership this term.

He said: “The focus for me is winning the next game. Celtic are ahead of us by a long way at the moment. We have just got to keep winning games.

“If they slip up and we win, we get closer. If Hearts and Aberdeen slip up and we win, we go into second and become more comfortable in second.

“We’ve got a real opportunity to do that in the next three or four games. We’ve got Hearts twice, Aberdeen and it all kicks off on Saturday.

“We want to back up last week’s win with a win at Partick. I look upon it as a great opportunity to play against the so-called challengers for second spot.

“Celtic are well out of it at the moment, but there is a long, long way to go. Who knows what can happen in football?

“A wee ropey spell, a good spell for us or others and that gap could get closer.

“We have a fantastic opportunity in the next month to cement that second spot that we are looking to regain after losing it with the draw last week.”

While Rangers will head to Firhill seeking another league win, Aberdeen have the Betfred Cup in their sights as they gear-up for Sunday’s showdown with Celtic.

Victory over the Jags will see Warburton’s side return to second spot ahead of their clash with Hearts on Wednesday night.

Rangers have won two and drawn two since their Old Firm defeat at Hampden and Miller is determined to put together a sustained run of form.

He said: “It’s an opportunity. I don’t worry about what Hearts, Aberdeen or Celtic are doing.

“We know that if we do what we do, we need to do it more consistently. That’s the answer.

“Draw, win, draw, win, win, defeat: you’re not going to win leagues with that kind of form.

“You’re going to need to put up a sustained run of wins together. We’ve had blocks of fixtures that we have looked at after and thought ‘we should have’.

“Look at the draws we have had in the last month against St Johnstone at home and Ross County away.

“At Ross County, we never even played that great but we could have been two or three up with the chances we had.

“There were mistakes or wee slips in the middle of the park and, on three or four occasions in that first half, we should have made more of that.

“We should have got that second goal, which might have been the deciding factor in us coming away with three points that day.

“That game was symptomatic of the way it has gone this season but I have seen definite improvement in the last six or seven games.

“If we can put that run of wins together, there is no reason why we can’t close the gap and cement that second spot.”
