MARK WARBURTON was delighted striker Joe Dodoo made the most of his chance to shine after waiting patiently for a shot in the Ibrox attack.

The 21-year-old was the Firhill hero for Rangers last weekend as he stepped off the bench to score twice in the final few minutes.

Kris Doolan had put Partick Thistle ahead and on course for a famous Premiership win over the Light Blues but Alan Archibald’s side couldn’t hold out for all three points.

Dodoo has made most of his 14 appearances for the Gers from the sidelines and also netted in the games against East Stirlingshire and Peterhead.

The former Leicester kid could be handed a start against Hearts tonight and Warburton was pleased to see take him make an impact on Saturday.

He said: “Nothing separates him. But he has a desire to play.

“He banged on the door asking to play, which was great. I appreciated that.

“He said to me, ‘I want to play.’ I said, ‘be patient.’ It wasn’t quite that short, but that was it.

“He said he felt he was working hard enough and deserved a chance. What I liked about it was he thought about it.

“If we beat Kilmarnock 3-0 when it could have been more don’t knock on the door on Monday and say, ‘I’m not playing’. He thought about it and came in at the right time.

“I appreciate his intelligence. And he was right in what he said.

“I said bide your time and when the chance comes take it.

“He has had to be patient, he got his chance on Saturday and took it – so I am delighted for him. Those were not easy finishes on Saturday.

“In that situation he was asked to come on and make a difference and did it. I am delighted for him.

“We have a few striking options in Joe Garner, Kenny Miller, Martyn Waghorn and Harry [Forrester], etc.”
