Hoops assistant Chris Davies has hit back at Motherwell manager Mark McGhee, insisting that the Scotland assistant's comments post-match were at odds to a welcome extended in the home programme.

McGhee claimed after a touchline spat with Davies that he did not know who the 31-year-old was; something that caused Davies to raise an eyebrow.

He told STV: "I've seen bits afterwards. I was surprised that he didn't know who I was because in the programme he extended a warm welcome to me."

The issue appears to stem from McGhee interrupting Celtic's post-match warm-up to tell them that they were not allowed to train in a particular area of the ground.

McGhee was seen on photographs immediately afterwards winking and joking with his own staff.

Celtic went on to win the game 4-3 with a last-minute goal before Davies and McGhee clashed at full-time.

"You can't control what people say or do. I think the manager addressed it on our part very clearly and strongly after the game and that's that," said Davies.

"None of us had ever seen anything like that in football but that's not the real story. The real story is 2-0 down away from home against a team that's doing everything they can on and off the pitch to disrupt what we're doing.

"We come back and score four goals and we could have had more. It was complete domination in the second half and we found the solutions to the problems and that's what we're really happy about.

"Great resilience and perseverance, everything we want from our team and we delivered it."
