MARK WARBURTON insists Rangers have been flexible in their tactical approach in the Premiership this term.

The Ibrox boss is an advocate of a 4-3-3 formation and famously stated that his Plan B was to do Plan A better.

Warburton has come in for criticism for the way his side have lined up in recent weeks when results have gone against Rangers.

Many supporters have become frustrated with the possession-based approach of the Light Blues but the Gers were more direct in their play against Aberdeen last weekend.

The visit of Hearts tomorrow afternoon is next on the agenda for Warburton and the Ibrox boss is confident his blueprint will still pave the way to success in the Premiership.

He said: “How can I put it? Someone says to me you have to play 4-2-3-1 when we play a 4-3-3.

“They could say you need to play a 4-4-2, we played a 4-3-3. Those formations are just different aspects of a 4-3-3 formation. That’s all it is.

“Going with three at the back is different but 4-1-4-1 is a one and two in midfield and three up-front.

“If we have Kenny Miller playing higher with Joe Garner as opposed to Josh Windass playing deeper, if you have Barrie (McKay) coming much narrower and Kenny back in midfield, it’s different movement within a 4-3-3.

“I would say look at what we do. It’s not rigid 4-3-3, I hope it’s a very fluid 4-3-3. That has to be our aim, to get better every day, and become a more fluid 4-3-3.

“What we showed on Saturday is we can go longer and with Joe we now have an aerial threat in both boxes.

“He is strong with a physical presence, although not the biggest, but he handles himself really well. He is an outlet for us.”
