Liam Lindsay has praised Celtic as the best team he has ever come up against, and he thinks that Partick Thistle can learn from their relentless work-rate.

Lindsay’s headed goal on his 50th appearance for the club gave the Jags some momentary hope against the Hoops before they eventually succumbed to a 4-1 defeat at Firhill.

And while his goal was scant consolation for the defender, he says that he will take away some valuable lessons from the experience of playing against Brendan Rodgers’ men.

“100% they are the best team I’ve played ever,” Lindsay said. “The way they work, they know what they are doing on the pitch and they are just a top-class team.

“I just think we saw what a top quality team was about. They worked harder than us and they’ve obviously got more quality than us, and we were punished for basic things.

“We can’t let that happen, especially since we’re playing them in a week, we’ve got to learn fast.

“We’ve seen first-hand what we need to do. You saw their work-ethic even when they were 3-1 and 4-1 up. They are still working hard and we need to take something from that.

“It’s about always working hard and making sure you’re concentrating on what you are doing and what is happening on the pitch.”

The biggest disappointment for Lindsay on the night was the fact that although Celtic were clearly deserved winners, lapses from Thistle had helped them to score the goals to earn that victory.

The second and third goals in particular, conceded in quick succession soon after the interval, irked the big defender.

“We had to keep it tight and hopefully they would get a wee bit nervous if we keep it at 1-0,” he said. It wasn’t to be and it’s disappointing.

“The manner of the goals was definitely disappointing. It was from our mistakes, and when you’re in this position you can’t make mistakes.

“It’s hard against Celtic, but it was a bit criminal and against Celtic especially you’re going to get punished and we did.”
