JOE GARNER reckons Rangers’ defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle could prove to be the turning point of their Premiership campaign.

Mark Warburton’s side went down 2-0 in Gorgie last month as they lost second spot in the top flight standings.

But back-to-back wins over Aberdeen and the Jambos have now put them four points clear of their rivals to be best of the rest this term.

Rob Kiernan and Barrie McKay were on target as Ian Cathro’s side were beaten on Saturday and Garner is keen to build on another impressive victory as attentions turn to the trip to Hamilton.

He said: “We will go through this game to look at it and then I am sure the gaffer will set us up the way he wants us to play on Friday night.

“Obviously we need to start picking up points away and I am sure we will do that. It might take time but I sure we will. We look forward to the next game.

“You could say that [consistency has been missing], but then you can look at the way we have won the last two games. It could have been four or five in this one.

“We created a lot of chances and we are probably a little bit disappointed not to have a few more goals because of that.

“But now we need to create chances in away games and put them away.

“The gaffer went through that game [at Tynecastle] and told us what he expected from us. It could be a turning point. We have won the last two games but we will see.

“I think we have to concentrate on Friday and trying to pick up three points. We’ll all look forward to it.”

The pressure was on Warburton and his players after a poor showing at Tynecastle but the Gers have responded in style in their last two outings.

Garner has been the focal point up front as the Light Blues have adopted a more direct attacking blueprint at times.

And the striker is pleased to see Warburton’s side getting their rewards after another deserved win at Ibrox.

Garner said: “I think we have mixed it up well. We have played when it is on to play and turned teams when they have pressed us.

“When you have the pace of Baz or Mikey O’Halloran then teams can struggle when you turn them.

“We have picked up six points from our last two games so we have looking to crack on.

“Baz is only a young lad. I see him every day in training and he is a top, top player.

“You saw that [on Saturday] and the fans were right behind him. He can be anything he wants to be.

“What age is Barry? 21? He is not very old. Trust me, he has all the ability to go wherever he wants. Let him play his football.”
