I don’t know Malky Mackay as a man but I know of him in a football sense a lot of people in the game have backed him to do a good job as the SFA Performance Director.

It is a big call from the SFA after what happened at Cardiff and Malky has apologised for that. He knows he was in the wrong.

In terms of candidates for the position, I think he is the best man for the job. I would have had no hesitation in appointing him.

If he could turn the clock back and take back what he said in those text messages, I am sure he would do. But it is done and dusted now.

Some people might not have been willing to take a chance on him but the SFA clearly feel that, despite the obvious baggage he has, that he is the right man for the job.

He is an experienced football man, someone that has been there and done it and I think he was the best candidate when you look at his CV and what he could bring to the job.

Our game is fading badly, it is probably in the worst state than it has been for a long time and we need this appointment to work out.

Whenever the national side or a club side are struggling, everyone looks at the grassroots. But we have been talking about it for 25 years when it comes to Scotland.

We have got to do something about it and hopefully Malky is the man to change our fortunes.

There is nobody at the top of the SFA that has played the game or coached or managed. Malky knows the game, he is an authoritative figure and we need someone who will stand up to the people that hold us back.

It is going to be very hard for him but if he wants to do his bit for Scottish football and help the game then good luck to him.
