Lubomir Moravcik was 33 when he was signed from German club Duisburg for just £200k. Signed by Dr Josef Venglos, Moravcik was an unknown entity when he arrived at Celtic and his signing was met with indifference from the Hoops support – and some derision from elsewhere. Yet, within his opening performances for Celtic the little Slovakian very quickly offered a glimpse of the magic that he would go on to enchant the Parkhead audience with. Deft with both feet, Morvacik was a gem in the middle of the park with his ability to do things that no-one else could and to see the pass that opened defences. He was also adept at scoring too yet prior to his arrival at Celtic he had never won a major trophy. He left Celtic as a firm favourite having won two titles, two League Cups and a Scottish Cup.

Celtic 5 Rangers 1, November 1998

This was my third game for Celtic, I think, and the first time I had played against Rangers. I had heard a lot about the game and how crazy it could be and Rangers were the dominant team at the time. No-one expected much from us – or from me, I don’t think! Myself and Johan Mjallby were new going into the game – Johan had just signed for the club but I had played a couple of games - and I do remember the noise and the chaos from the opening minutes. So many players try to tell you what to expect before you play your first game against Rangers but it is impossible to be prepared for it – you just have to experience it for yourself. I scored two goals and I remember that the game went by very quickly. Henrik Larsson scored two and Mark Burchill came on and scored a late one too. It gave our supporters something to shout about and for my first experience of the fixture it was fantastic.

Celtic 0 Ajax 1, August 2001

I spent a large part of my career looking at the Champions League and wondering what it would be like to play in it. This game at Celtic Park was the second leg of our final qualifier and it was very nerve racking because the score was on a knife edge. We had gone to the Amsterdam ArenA and won 3-1 with a really brave performance but the second leg was very tense. Ajax scored and it gave us a little bit of doubt but we managed to see the game out. It was not a wonderful 90 minutes, we were simply trying to make sure that we got through the tie but when the whistle blew that night it is one of nicest sounds I ever heard in my football career! I knew then that I would get the opportunity to play in the Champions League, the best competition there is for a footballer, and it was very exciting. On a personal level I was happy but I was also pleased for the club and for the supporters because they had waited so long to see the club in the competition.

Rangers 0 Celtic 3, April 2001

This was the season when Henrik won the Golden Boot and what a game to score his 50th goal. It was a campaign in which we won the Treble and it felt very special to play a part in it. I was a Celtic player in Rangers’ dressing rooms before when it had been a difficult afternoon so to go there that day with a team full of confidence and just know that we were going to win the game was a good feeling. I think Rangers had one chance on the first-half but other than that we were very dominant. We had already won the league so we knew that it was a day we could go out and enjoy. I started the game and scored two goals in the second half which I enjoyed and then Henrik got his 50th goal just as the game was coming to a close. I also remember that Shaun Maloney came on to make his debut for the club too. It was just an afternoon where everything seemed to go right for us and it was a lot of fun to play in. We were on top for most of the game and I think we beat Rangers four times out of five that season which wasn’t bad.
