TOMMY MCINTYRE insists his Celtic Under-20 side were well worthy of their derby victory as they edged out Rangers.

The Hoops moved up to seventh spot in the Development League standings and five points clear of their Old Firm rivals as they clinched a 1-0 win on Tuesday afternoon.

A Calvin Miller strike on the stroke of half-time was all that separated the sides as Celtic claimed the Old Firm bragging rights.

Rangers had few chances to get themselves back into the match and the visitors were able to see the game out to secure all three points.

And Professional Academy Manager McIntyre hopes the derby experience will benefit his up-and-coming talents after they emerged as deserved winners at Auchenhowie.

“We had a good sprinkling of young players out there such as Jack Aitchison, Calvin Miller, Mark Hill and Theo Archibald and when we got the goal it was fully deserved and we controlled the game in the second half,” he told CelticTV.

“We just needed that second goal and if we had got that then it could have been a bit easier for us. Rangers stuck in and fair dues to them. It was a tough match but you don’t expect anything different.

“You are always wondering if they get a wee half-chance, but in terms of chances created, we kept them to a minimum.

“Ross Doohan was excellent in terms of his use of the ball at the back and we built the play well and created most of the chances and we just needed that second one.

“These are good games to play in, the young players like to play them and it’s good for their progression.”
