OLIVER BURKE insists he isn’t surprised to see RB Leipzig launching a bid for the Bundesliga title in their first season in the top flight.

The Scotland international made the move to the Red Bull Arena in the summer as boss Ralph Hasenhüttl shelled out £13million to sign him from Nottingham Forest.

Die Bullen are just three points adrift of league leaders Bayern Munich after a stunning start to the campaign and are on course to complete a remarkable rise through the ranks and clinch Champions League football for the first time.

Burke found the target for Leipzig as they beat Rangers 4-0 in a friendly on Sunday ahead of their return to league action against Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.

And the 19-year-old is confident there is plenty more to come from RB in the second half of the campaign as he looks to cap a dream season in style.

Burke said: “I’ve signed for five years. I’m getting better and better and that’s the main thing really when you sign for another club.

“Being young as well, you want to be learning and taking everything on board and just keep improving. Then it will all come.

“To be honest, I wasn’t so surprised [by Leipzig’s impact on the Bundesliga] because speaking with the coaches and the manager, you could just see the goals and where they want to be.

“Obviously it happened a lot quicker, but I could see it happening. I didn’t know it would happen so quickly because it’s their first season in the Bundesliga, but we’ve adapted really well. We have to keep going. There’s still a long way to go.

“We can’t dwell on our recent results. We should get a bit of confidence from the result against Rangers and go into our next game with bundles of confidence.

“Anything is possible. I can’t say [if we will win the Bundesliga]. Football’s a crazy game. We’ll see. It’s for you to find out.”

Burke was given the first half of Sunday’s friendly at the Red Bull Arena and capped a solid display with a well taken goal to help his side on the road to victory.

The forward scored his first goal for Leipzig in the draw with Cologne in September and has helped Hasenhüttl’s side to a superb run of form this term.

RB face fourth-placed Frankfurt on Saturday and Burke believes his time on the continent is bringing out the best in him.

He said: “I’m learning every day on the training pitch. We have video analysis and I’m watching that most days. Even on my phone, I’m constantly looking to see where I can improve.

“I feel that I’m getting better and if I continue to work hard on the training pitch, listen to my coaches and listen to my team-mates and take all the advice on board, for sure it’s only going to get better and I’ll learn the style of football we play at this club.

“I just keep working hard in training and the coach chooses the team. We will see if I play or not. That’s where I want to be.

“I want to be playing, I want to be involved with the team and help the team as much as possible. Hopefully [on Sunday] I’ve shown what I’m capable of. We’ll see what happens.

“There is a little bit extra with the tactics. An area of my game that I need to improve on is the defensive side and being in the right position at the right time, making sure I’m pressing a man. And winning the ball, not just pressing.

“There is all sorts. I could be here all day. There are many things I need to learn.

“And I’m pretty sure there is much more they need to tell me as well. Take each day as it comes and keep improving.”
