Manchester United are the latest name who are tracking Kieran Tierney.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter that I think or you think the best option for the lad is to stay with Celtic for the immediate future, but what the boy himself thinks. And I think we can say with some certainty that Tierney is settled where he is and understands that he is best suited playing his football at Celtic Park for a good while yet.

Of course, the time may well come when there is a move on the horizon and he fancies testing himself in another league. But I don’t think anyone has to worry that it will be upon us too soon.

He is a sensible lad who understands that he is still progressing and learning the game and it is safe to say that it will do his confidence no harm at all to know that clubs of United’s calibre are keeping tabs on him.

Tierney came through the academy at Celtic and he is a boy who would be on the terraces supporting the club if he wasn’t on the pitch. He isn’t in any rush to go anywhere and Celtic’s financial stability means that nor are the club inviting suitors through the door.

I don’t think there has been anything approaching a bid by the Old Trafford side simply that they, along with a number of others, have been alerted to Tierney’s progress and are duly keeping a note of him.

That augers well for both the player and the club and both will take as a compliment.

But Tierney will be well aware that his immediate remit is to get himself back into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team as quickly as possible.

Emilio Izaguirre came back in when Tierney was sidelined and you would have to say that he walked back into the side and put his shoulder to the wheel. I have been impressed by the form of Izaguirre since he re-emergence.

There are some players who would have thrown the toys out of the pram at the fact they had lost their place in the side to a kid, but both his attitude and form have been first-class.

So while Tierney might feel privately chuffed that he is being linked with some top level names in the game, his main concern at the minute will be on winning his place back in the team after being in the treatment room for the last wee while.

Like Moussa Dembele, there is no pressing need for Celtic to look for offers.

And the other aspect to it is that under Brendan Rodgers this is a Celtic team that look capable of going places. The journey so far has been an exciting one and it looks like being only the opening chapters of a successful era at the club.

There are, of course, bigger financial offers to be gained south of the border given the chasm in wages but at Celtic just now there is the opportunity to go out and win trophies and make an impact in the UEFA Champions League.

There is considerable pulling power at the club just now given the way that Rodgers has started his tenure at Celtic and there is a feeling that everyone wants to be involved in that.

This is a club just now that can offer an excellent platform and for the likes of Dembele and Tierney, they know that if they sustain the level of performance that they have then the interest in them will only increase.

Both players fall into the category, I think, of being able to leave Celtic and go into the upper echelons of clubs in the English Premiership. They are young and hungry and under Rodgers they are getting the chance to genuinally kick on in their careers.

As a former manager, I always think that you get a feeling as to whether a player wants to move. Tierney is different in that he is a Hoops fan and loves playing for the club while we all know that players like Dembele can come knowing that if they play well then they can earn a more lucrative move.

Yet, Dembele could have earned significantly more money staying in England last summer rather than going to Celtic so I don’t think there is any rush for the exit. He clearly has been advised and his own strategy in terms of developing his career and when you look at his performances for Celtic so far in the opening half of the season and the magnitude of the goals he has shown, I suspect he will be satisfied that his career his progressing in the right direction.

I suspect that Celtic will enjoy the sight of both players in the Hoops for another while yet.
