Mikael Lustig has set his sights on further silverware with Celtic after penning a two-year extension to his current Hoops deal.

As revealed in Tuesday’s TimesSport, the Swedish defender has opted to prolong his stay in Glasgow after some months of negotiations with the Parkhead side.

The 30-year-old has been a mainstay of the side since arriving in January 2012 from Rosenborg and Brendan Rodgers was keen to have the player signed up as his deal drew to a close.

“I’ve been here for a long time and I really enjoy my life here and playing for Celtic,” the Swede told CelticTV. “I’m really happy. I’m still hungry for more and I love being here.

“We’ve started really well in the first six months under the new manager and staff so that’s why it was an easy thing for me to do. Celtic is growing and getting better every season now and I want to be a part of it.

“We have a chance to take the treble now and we’ve obviously not done that yet, but everyone wants to just continue to develop as a team, continue to play against good sides and learn.”

Established at international level with Sweden, Lustig now is keen to prolong his experience at Champions League level.

Having spent five years already at Celtic, the player found it difficult to pick a highlight of his time so far but the games against Europe’s elite inevitably come to mind.

“There have been plenty of things,” he added. “To win five in a row, and going for six, has been brilliant. As a footballer you want to win silverware and I’ve done that. And to play Champions League football at Celtic Park has been amazing so hopefully we can continue with that.

“For me it has been brilliant, not just at Celtic but the people in Glasgow have also been really helpful. You just feel like people want to help you all the time and it’s been amazing for us as a family.”

Meanwhile, there was further good news for the Parkhead side with football’s Deloitte report listing Celtic among the 60 highest revenue generating clubs in the world.

Celtic marginally improved their income last season (2015-16) to £52m, an increase of 2%. Champions League participation will have a further positive impact on the club’s placing again next year after a figure of between £25m and £30m was banked from the group stages this term.

Manchester United recorded revenue of £515.3m, to place them at the forefront of the football money league, with Barcelona and Real Madrid making up the top three.
