EMERSON HYNDMAN had his FA Cup dreams dashed as his season with Bournemouth came to a disappointing and premature end.

Now the midfielder is determined to start his Rangers career with a win to set Mark Warburton’s side off and running on the road to Hampden.

Hyndman made his third and final appearance of the campaign for the Cherries just hours before he headed north of the border to sign on the dotted line at Ibrox.

By the time the American had left the field at the New Den against Millwall a fortnight ago, Eddie Howie’s side were already two goals behind and heading out of the FA Cup.

It was one of the shocks of the round and a day to forget for Hyndman and his Dean Court peers.

After making his Gers bow in the friendly defeat to RB Leipzig last weekend, the American is now in line to feature against Motherwell this afternoon.

A place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup is at stake and Hyndman is determined to taste victory once again.

He said: “I played against Millwall. We made a lot of changes in that game. We lost 3-0.

“It was a difficult game because a lot of us weren’t match fit and we hadn’t played a lot of games together. At the same time, it is a bit different down there in terms of the competition and the FA Cup.

“The top teams sometimes have two or three competitions at the same time so there is a bit of rotation in the FA Cup. For Rangers, the Scottish Cup is definitely a priority.

“We are confident going into this game and, like I said, we want to win it. We are taking each game as it comes. Personally, that wouldn’t be good so I am really motivated to win this one.

“That is what I am striving for. Any time you go to a new team, you want to make an impact, even in training. As soon as you step on the pitch you want to earn the respect of the people you are with.

“I feel comfortable here now, I have spent a week and a half and I feel ready to make an impact. That Leipzig game was good for me, not just to show the fans, but to play with the team in a game helps a lot.”

There were few positives to take from the trip to the Red Bull Arena on Sunday as Warburton’s side struggled against their Bundesliga hosts.

Midfielder Jon Toral made his bow from the start before Hyndman was introduced at the break and given his first run out in Light Blue.

It was an occasion to savour for the 20-year-old and a useful exercise as he continues to settle into life in Scottish football.

Hyndman said: “It was great to make my debut at the weekend, it was nice too to travel with the team and do all that.

“I had trained for a few days but it was nice to get out on the pitch. We were up against good opposition, but I was happy to be involved.

“To see 8,000 Rangers fans in the stadium was something else. It was unbelievable. The support you get here is quite incredible.

“There are not many clubs who would take 8,000 fans to Germany for a friendly in the snow.

“I didn’t think there would be that many fans there so I was quite taken aback.

“People told me this was a big club but maybe I didn’t realise how big at first.

“There were cameras waiting for me at the airport when I arrived. As the week went on, things began to sink in.

“I think seeing so many fans in Germany really brought it home. You can’t really appreciate how big the club is until you actually live it.”

With his first game for Rangers and another week of training under his belt, Hyndman is now primed for action at Ibrox.

He will spend the coming months aiming to help Warburton’s side clinch second spot in the Premiership and go one better and lift the Scottish Cup at Hampden.

Hyndman is likely to feature against the Steelmen this afternoon and he is confident he can hit the ground running in Light Blue.

He said: “I hope to gain a lot from the loan experience.

“It has been a frustrating five months for me at Bournemouth but at the same time I recognised what the manager wanted done. I’m delighted to be here.

“I’m looking to break into the team as soon as I can because I want to push the team to reach higher things.

“We have a cup game on Saturday and that’s something I am looking to win. I am not here to be knocked out of it at all.

“I want to play as many games as I can. If I can do that I hope it helps Rangers.

“I am focusing on here right now. It has been frustrating for a bit of time so it feels kind of like a new beginning.

“I just want to relish the time that I have here and really make the most of it. I hope to do what I can.”
