Brendan Rodgers was left singing the praises of Kieran Tierney after the youngster made his comeback after a three month absence.

The Scotland internationalist played for just over an hour in the 3-0 win over Albion Rovers that sets up a fifth Scottish Cup tie against Inverness at Celtic Park.

“Kieran looked like he had never been away, enthused Rodgers. “He is dynamic on that left-side and he and Scott have a great relationship. It was great. The plan was to give him 60-65 minutes on an astroturf field.”

Meanwhile, Rodgers has also insisted that Dedrcyk Boyata can have a future at Celtic, despite featuring only twice this season.

The defender was drafted in for his second start in the 3-0 win over Albion Rovers yesterday afternoon and Rodgers believes that there are qualities in the 26-year-old that could give him a more prominent platform at the club.

“He looked like the young player I saw at Manchester City,” said Rodgers. “I had seen him play against Didier Drogba when he was a really young player and he was fantastic. He was strong, quick, aggressive and that is what I have been saying to him. He hasn’t had a chance to play because others have been in front of him but in the last few weeks in training he has been great.

“You see today he was really focused and there were no mistakes. Play simple, defend, get on the front foot, win your headers and you can be a player.

“He can still be a player for me. He has all the attributes that I love because he’s big, got a good spring, he can defend, he’s actually a good defender, he steps forward and defends and he can play.

“The problem in the past has been he’s made mistakes. You can’t make mistakes and lose concentration. You see today – very focused very concentrated. Now this might be his moment. He’s got the shirt, he played well and now he might stay in the team.

“He hasn’t been in the team but he can come into the team and play to that level because of his professionalism.”

And Rodgers will not welcome a bid for the Belgian internationalist.

“Not at this moment,” he said. “Here’s a squad of 20 odd players now that are working really well.

“I want to make sure we’re strong going into this second part of the season with everyone fighting for their position in the team. That’s the position we are in.”

Celtic have enquired about 19-year-old Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru, the KAS Eupen striker, who has so far scored 10 goals in the Belgian top flight this season.

The teenager told AfricanFootball.com that Celtic had made a bid for him and that negotiations were underway to take him to Glasgow.

Rodgers wouldn’t expand on that but maintained that the club would like to add to their tally before the window closes at the end of the month.

“We’ve obviously got another week or so,” said the Celtic manager. “I want to add to the squad to keep the freshness and the quality. But only if it’s the right time and players are available at the right level of affordability. If not we’ll just have to wait until the summer.”

Leigh Griffiths missed the win over Albion but the striker is expected to be back for Wednesday’s game against St Johnstone.

And Rodgers was satisfied with the home draw for the next round of the Scottish Cup.

“It is a home draw,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who you play you always want a home draw. It will be a tough game but we will go into it looking to win it. If we want to win it [Scottish Cup] then we need to get through each game. I am sure it will be a tough one for us.”
