St Mirren manager Jack Ross has called upon his players to capitalise on the feel-good factor created by their Scottish Cup win over Dundee last week by putting Falkirk to the sword today.

Ross is hoping that his side can use their win at Dens Park as a springboard as they attempt to build some momentum in their league campaign.

The Saints boss knows it is imperative that his side piece together a winning sequence if they are to dig themselves out of trouble at the bottom of the Championship.

“It’s entirely the aim to keep the momentum going,” Ross said.

“I’ve argued the case before about us not quite achieving the results for some good performances, but the one thing we really have not been able to do is create a consistent momentum.

“We flirted with it with the results against Queen of the South and Raith Rovers earlier in the campaign, and it looked as though we were on the cusp of that.

“Albeit we’ve managed to keep chipping away with points here and there and with the cup wins, but we have still to put that really good run together that we are aiming for, and last week is as good a time as any to have put the foundations down for that.”

The stuttering recent form of the visitors allied to St Mirren’s impressive victory last week is giving Ross hope that the three points will stay in Paisley this afternoon.

If that is to be the case though, he knows his players will have to show a real will to win that hasn’t always been evident in their play so far this term.

“Falkirk haven’t been on the best run by their own high standards, but that can work both ways,” he said.

“They will have a determination to put the last couple of results right, and obviously they are where they are in the league on merit.

“They have a good squad which is full of quality and proven at this level as well.

“It’s a cliché, but they are all very difficult games in this league. We understand the importance of us winning games at the moment, so the players have to go in and show that, and play in a manner which befits the determination that we have.”

Stephen McGinn will go straight into the squad for St Mirren today after completing his move back to the club from Wycombe Wanderers yesterday.
