GLASGOW WARRIORS centres Sam Johnson and Nick Grigg have extended their contracts with the Pro12 club.

Johnson has signed on for two more years at Scotstoun, while Grigg has put pen to paper on a 12-month renewal of his deal, the club announced on Tuesday.

Both players will have added competition for places next season after Glasgow announced yesterday that Scotland international Huw Jones will join in the summer.

Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend, who led the club to the Pro12 title in 2015, will leave for the Scotland job in the summer to be succeeded by Dave Rennie and current Scotland assistant Jason O'Halloran.

Both players underlined that the incoming coaching team played a big part in their respective decisions to extend their stays in Glasgow.

“I definitely wanted to stay and Dave Rennie was a major factor," explained Johnson.

"The way Glasgow have performed lately it’s definitely the best choice for me to stay for my own personal development.

“We’re selling out the stadium every week and more and more people are getting excited about the club and where it’s going and we’ve qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup for the first time. If we continue down that road anything is possible for this club.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to play most of the European games inside Alex (Dunbar) and I get so much confidence playing with him.

“I’m looking forward to working with Dave Rennie next season. The Chiefs have been really successful since he’s been there, so if he can bring that flair and continue that attack side of things I think that will help me develop.

“We’ve got huge games coming up starting with the Scarlets on Friday night. It’s a really important time and we’ve got to continue the hard work on the pitch.”

Grigg, who was called into the Scotland training squad for the Autumn Tests last year after breaking into the Glasgow team, said: "I’m pretty excited to see what the future holds for me for the rest of this season and next season and I’m stoked to get an extended deal from the club.

“The competition pushes us on and all the centres stick together and try and perform the best we can for the club on the field.

“I get along well with Jason (O’Halloran) and I enjoyed working with him when I was training with Scotland in November, so hopefully we’ll work well together next season.”

Glasgow currently occupy fourth place in the Pro12 table, nine points behind leaders Munster after 13 rounds of action.
